Minimum Viable Product Grant (MVP)
Minimum Viable Product (MVP) Grant
About the Program
The Minimum Viable Product (MVP) grant is designed to support promising startups with the funds needed to progress from a proof of concept stage to a working minimum viable product. The program helps startups engage with potential business customers and create innovative solutions that address real industry needs or market gaps.
Please note: MVP grant programs are offered at the state level and program availability, funding amounts, and eligibility rules may change. We recommend checking the latest information with the relevant state government or contacting the KP Retail team for up-to-date guidance.
What Funding Is Available?
Historically, MVP grants have been offered as matched funding grants, covering up to 50% of approved project costs up to a maximum of $25,000. Under previous rounds:
- 35% of the funding was paid upfront
- 65% was paid after completion and validation of the MVP
Who Is This For?
MVP grants are typically available to technology startups across all industry sectors who are primarily focused on developing a scalable technology solution. The grants are aimed at pre-revenue startups that need support to get from concept to a working product.
Typical Eligibility Requirements
While requirements vary by round and state, MVP grants typically require that your startup:
- Has a completed proof of concept (e.g. prototype completed)
- Holds IP or the rights to commercialise the solution
- Has a potential business customer or channel to market identified
- Can demonstrate a scalable solution that can be deployed to multiple customers
- Is at a pre-revenue stage
- Has an ABN registered in the relevant state and is based there
- Can demonstrate adequate matched funding for the project
